This drawing looks through the eyes of the ‘Alienated’, those in our community who have been separated from the rest of society and forced into the shadows.

This not only related to the homeless but to all those in society that feel alienated, isolated and alone… minority groups, the disabled, the disadvantaged and those struggling with mental health issues.

The main figure with the long neck lunges toward the tunnel, desperate to become accepted back into society yet he is being held back by another alienated figure. This figure also longs to be accepted back into society, yet he has been hurt too many times before and is scared of being rejected once more. The seated figure has given up and is too afraid to attempt rejoining society.

The barbed wire represents the feelings of imprisonment and a sense of hopelessness about their inability to escape from their current situation, which is exactly what the alienated are feeling and experiencing. It also represents the invisible barrier that blinds the majority of the community from seeing beyond their own superficial world and stopping them noticing and helping those in need.
