This drawing is named after the inspiring song by Pink Floyd, of the same title. The song highlights how some people turn a blind eye on the forgotten and disadvantaged in our society.
The two figures in the foreground are a father and daughter. The father is pulling his daughter along, not wanting his daughter to have anything to do with the people in the shadows. The people in the shadows are calling out for help as they walk pass. While thinking he’s protecting his daughter, he is actually teaching her to ignore them as he does.
One hand in the background is pointing to the father and daughter’s joined hands. This is pointing out the forgotten people’s longing to be loved and cared for. This also points out the ignorance towards the disadvantaged.
The teddy bear represents the child’s innocence, as she does not understand what is occuring. The bear becomes the focal point as it does not have any connection to the people in the background. This is to enact what many people in our society do; preferring to live in a created superficial world, never connecting to a true sense of reality.
