Humanity’s existence consists of every individual’s limited reality. Our one reality however, is only one in billions. There may be opportunities to see further beyond our own realities, but do we really want to look beyond?
The ‘mask’ the figure wears in this drawing is representational of horse racing blinders which restricts the horse’s peripheral vision. This is to keep the horse focused on what is in front rather than becoming distracted by what is happening to the side, behind, or by a spectating crowd. In this drawing I have taken this imagery of the horse blinders to question how we as people conduct ourselves in everyday life.
The inclusion of the curved spyglass in this work signifies the possible ability and choice to see beyond an individual’s usual perimeters.
