This artwork shows a young girl who has become aware of the alienation of those in our society and is passing over her most cherished possession, her teddy bear, to one of the disadvantaged as a representation of love and compassion. Her father on the other hand chooses to walk on and ignore the people in need.

In this picture I wanted to put the viewer in the place of one of the alienated by making the viewer feel as if they are next in line with the others.

Although the girl gives over her teddy bear to one of the people, the others in line (including the viewer) are not given anything. This shows that more help is needed and there are many people that require the help.

The father and daughter are higher up than the other people in the drawing. This shows the ‘status’ of the people compared to the less fortuante. The girl doesn’t see herself higher than the people and views the people as equal to everyone else in society.

This artwork was inspired by the beautiful song Under Pressure, created and sung by Queen and David Bowie. The Lyrics for this song express the need for us to extend our love to others in our community and how individuals ‘turn away from it all like blind men‘.
